Self-Assembling Matter

Programming matter to construct itself

W. Benjamin Rogers

Soffer Associate Professor of Engineering Science
Chair, Engineering Program and Interdepartmental Program in Biological Physics
Brandeis University

About the Lecture

This lecture will discuss how nanostructures can be programmed to assemble themselves, how experimentalists design particles, DNA-mediated interactions, and other building blocks so that thermal motion becomes a manufacturing process, what must be encoded at the component level to obtain a desired geometry, and how researchers diagnose misassembly and kinetic traps.
