The lecture will examine what electronic medical records have accomplished and where they continue to fall short for patients, clinicians, and health systems. It will discuss interoperability and information exchange, the effects of EMRs on clinical workflow and documentation burden, and what is needed to make digital medical records more useful as integrated clinical information systems.
